District 10 Medical Examiner Settles

After spending several thousand dollars in legal fees the District 10 Medical Examiner’s Office has agreed to stop its unlawful practice of using a flat-fee for public records requests.  District 10, which covers Polk, Highlands and Hardee Counties has been using a flat-fee payment schedule for a number of years.  Amazingly, this policy was adopted by the Polk County Commission in spite of the obvious violation of Florida Statute 119.

While we applaud the Medical Examiners willingness to finally comply with the law he is sworn to uphold, we regret that decision was so costly to the taxpayers.  OPM – Other People’s Money….
