Florida Secretary of State Abandons Unlawful Position On Voter Purge Records

After weeks of maintaining a nonsensical legal position regarding the release of a highly controversial list of voters, Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner has finally agreed to do his job and release the records.  An article in the Miami-Herald covered the story nicely.

At no time was there even a whiff of a doubt about whether the records were exempt from Florida’s sweeping public records laws. They aren’t exempt and there appears to be little doubt that Detzner knew it.

This entire episode seems to be exactly what the Florida Legislature had in mind when they criminalized knowing and willful violations of the Public Records Act.  Don’t hold your breath waiting for any LEO’s to roll up on Detzner and slap on a pair of handcuffs.
