Sunshine Law lawsuit muddies Hafner departure from SCF

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune has reported that a lawsuit was filed against the board of the State Collage of Florida. According to the article, the lawsuit aims to derail a secret plan to provide departing collage president, Lars Hafner with an unlawfully large severance package.  Apparently, Hafner is being paid about $363,000 per year and has demanded about $1.2 million to leave.

The plaintiff in the lawsuit is my brother Robert Chandler.  This is not Robert’s first rodeo. In fact he has been involved with numerous open government lawsuits over the past several years.

Robert’s lawsuit alleges that a series of meetings were held in violation of Florida’s open meeting laws and the SCF denied access to public records relating to those unlawful meetings. I don’t think Robert has a dog in the fight between Hafner and the SCF board. Robert simply wants decisions made in the sunshine.
