Stanley Voice is an active 89 year-old civil rights activists who lives in Palm Beach County, Florida. In addition to being active and caring about civil rights issues, Stanley is a retired transportation executive.
Stanley has taken up the cause of transportation for the elderly and disabled living in Palm Beach County. As part of his advocacy Stanley needs access to various public records created and recived by Palm Beach County’s PalmTran. Sadly, Stanley does not always get a warm welcome.
In fact, when Stanley shows up at PalmTran asking for access to public records he gets the “run-around.” Despite the fact that the records he’s after are at PalmTran, the folks with the records send Stanley on a wild goose chase to City Hall.
With great regularity Stanley is told to move along and seek the records from someone who does not have them.
So here’s the picture. An 89 year-old gentleman is shown the door and told to beat it. Shove-off, skedaddle and stop wasting everyone’s time with your damn public records requests.
That’s just not nice.
So I decided to see for myself how folks are treated by PalmTran. Turns out Stanley does not lie.
After I was told to shove-off I filed suit and magically Palm Beach County decided to change its unlawful (and unkind) policy.
